CDVEC has invited the residents of Ballsbridge, Ringsend and Donnybrook and anyone who is interested in the history of Pembroke Town Hall to visit our headquarters on the weekend of 12th and 13th November to witness a dramatisation of local events from the early 1900s. We hope you will enjoy meeting the Town Clerk of the day and his officials, hearing Edwardian music and viewing historical records of the time.

This year, 2011, marks the 60th anniversary of Pembroke Town Hall becoming the headquarters of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (CDVEC). We are celebrating this important anniversary in two ways.

Firstly we are re-issuing the CDVEC publication, ‘The Old Township of Pembroke 1863 – 1930’, the first edition of which was issued in 1993.

Secondly we are opening the Town Hall to the public on the weekend of the 12th and 13th November to put on a reconstruction of events from the early 1900s. We are also opening our nearby college – Ballsbridge College of Further Education on Shelbourne Road - where we are exhibiting old records and photography and holding the following  illustrated lectures on aspects of the history of the Township.

2.30pm Saturday, 12th November - ‘The Township of Pembroke’ Dr Seamus Ó Maitiú.

3.30pm Saturday, 12th November - ‘Historical Walk of Ballsbridge’ John Holohan

3.00pm Sunday, 13th November - ‘The International Exhibition 1907 in Ballsbridge’ Brian Siggins.

The Town Hall performers will be:

Inchicore CFE Theatre and performance students under the direction of Sharon O’Doherty

Inchicore CFE Costume and make-up under the direction of Leonore McDonagh

Staff of the Kylemore Music Centre under the direction of Ger Flanagan. Musicians will include Lisa McGuinness (Soprano) William Lees (Violin) Rodney Baldwin (Piano) and Jim Ward (Tenor)

Edwardian floral arrangements throughout the building will be by Crumin CFE.

We hope you will visit to our headquarters and enjoy a display of creativity from our staff and students across the city.

With warm wishes,

Jacinta Stewart
