Rúairí Quinn, TD, Minister for Education and Skills addresses the IVEA Congress on 13 September 2012

‘For too long,’ the Minister said, ‘the state has treated Further Education and Training as the black sheep of the education system’.  

In the Minister’s address to the IVEAs Annual Congress on 13th September he described a new chapter and a bright new future for the further education and training sector. ‘For too long,’ he said,  ‘the state has treated Further Education and Training as the black sheep of the education system’.  
 
He began by stressing the importance that he attaches to locally managed education. He said: ‘Service delivery, I believe, is an important part of the future of your sector. But equally important is your role as direct educators’.
